Rogerio Zamdamela reappointed governor of Central Bank
Maputo, 1 Sep (AIM) – President Filipe Nyusi on 30 August appointed Rogerio Zandamela to a second five year term of office as governor of the Bank of Mozambique.
Zandamela was first appointed in August 2016. Previously, he had worked at the International Monetary fund (IMF), from 1988 to 2016.
The Bank of Mozambique, under Zandamela’s management, is credited with expertly managing Mozambique’s economy during turbulent times. Tough monetary policies (which at one stage involved very high interest rates) has stabilised the metical, and inflation has been brought under control. In June, inflation was running at 5.5 per cent a year.
