   Grain production falls by almost five per cent
 
 

Mozambique’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Jose Pacheco, announced on Thursday that the data for the 2015-16 agricultural campaign show production of 2.39 million tonnes of grain – a decline of 4.8 per cent on the 2015 harvest of 2.51 million tonnes.

   Plans to increase grain storage capacity
 
 

The government has approved a plan to restructure the state-owned Matola Silos and Grain Terminal Company (STEMA), increasing its storage capacity to 110,000 tonnes, and to set up a new grain terminal in the northern port of Nacala.

The Mozambican economy saw an improvement in tax collection and a reduction in expenditure in the first quarter of this year, according to Rogerio Nkomo, National Director of Institutional Coordination in the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The Mozambican and Brazilian Foreign Ministers, Oldemiro Baloi and Aloysio Ferreira, on 11 May signed in Maputo legal instruments, notably on social security, to promote and strengthen cooperation relations between the two countries.

Electricity sales rise by 78 per cent
 
Mozambique’s publicly owned electricity company, EDM, increased its sales of power by about 78 per cent between 2015 and 2016.
